Oral Advocacy Showcase and Competition

The five student speakers who competed in the 2018 Oral Advocacy Showcase and Competition.

Featuring GW’s top students in public speaking, the annual Oral Advocacy Showcase and Competition welcomes students, faculty, staff and university community members to watch students deliver an original persuasive speech on a contemporary issue. Competitors are nominated by their peers from each section of the Public Communication (COMM 1040) course. After a preliminary round of judging, five speakers advance to the competition where they give their speech in under nine minutes. Audience members have the opportunity to ask questions following each speech.
